Probate and Estate Administration

We are licenced by the ICAEW to undertake non-contentious probate work on behalf of the personal representatives of an estate.  Our specialised team will be happy to take care of all probate and estate administration work on behalf of the estate.

We understand how difficult it can be to handle someone’s legal and financial affairs at a time when you are grieving the death of someone close.

Having vast experience and sound knowledge in inheritance tax planning we are ideally positioned to undertake probate and estate administration work.  For work carried out on behalf of our existing clients we already have a sound understanding of your family members financial background and are likely to have undertaken some sort of estate planning work in our normal course of business.

By appointing us to undertake probate work on your behalf we can use our background knowledge to reduce time and therefore costs.

The services we can provide include:

  • Reviewing the will, codicils and legacies.
  • Identify the assets within the estate and ascertain whether a grant of probate is required.
  • Value the estate.
  • Prepare the inheritance tax forms.
  • Prepare the papers for application for a grant of probate/grant of administration.
  • Obtain the grant.
  • Administer the estate and prepare estate accounts.
  • Finalise the income tax/capital gains tax position of the deceased.

Fees

Our fees are computed on the basis of time spent on your affairs by the principals and our staff, and on the levels of skill and responsibility involved. An indicative estimate of time and fees for probate services is as follows;

Estate administration 10 – 20 hours
Preparation of estate accounts 1 – 5 hours
Hourly rates are between £113 and £231 + VAT

Any disbursements we incur on your behalf, and expenses incurred in the course of carrying out our work for you, will be added to our invoices where appropriate.

Due to the complexity of work and processes involved with Probate and Estate Administration, completion of individual cases typically can take between six and twelve months. This can vary depending upon size and complexity of the estate.
