“What a Tax Week!”
…says Victoria Bishop, Tax Partner at robinson+co, after the events of the last week.
“Harry Redknapp acquitted, bankers arrested for alleged tax evasion, advance warning about heightened attention to builders, and e-traders…and now electricians.”
It is all evidence that the £900million earmarked prior to the October 2010 Spending Review to tackle tax evasion is being well utilised by H M Revenue & Customs.
The politicians may sometimes get confused but we at robinson+co are fully aware of the difference between tax evasion – which is illegal – and tax avoidance (or planning) - which is wholly legal.
We endeavour to help our clients avoid as much tax as possible, whilst remaining on the right side of the prison wall. However, the announcements about “Tax Safe Plans” for electricians and builders mean that everyone should be on their guard and be taking extra care to ensure that their tax affairs are in order.
“We are confident that our clients are compliant,” continues Victoria, “but if anyone does have any concerns, they should contact us immediately.” This applies to everyone, not just builders and electricians, for it is always better to approach H M Revenue & Customs first, and not wait for them to knock – literally or metaphorically – on your door.
Contact Victoria – or your normal contact at robinson+co – on 01900 693623 or 01946 692423 if you have any concerns at all that your affairs may not be in order. “I don’t expect many calls – if any at all“ finishes Victoria, “but I hope our clients know that we can sort things out for them and, due to our excellent relationship with H M Revenue & Customs, do so quickly and relatively painlessly.”
