Disappointment as Cumbria fails to net Enterprise Zone benefits
We at robinson+co were disappointed that no sites in Cumbria were designated as an Enterprise Zone yesterday – see Victoria Bishop’s article about the 2011 Budget.
It is a shame that Cumbria will not benefit from the schemes which the government hope will result in 30,000 new jobs by 2015.
It is perhaps felt that the new nuclear power plant at Sellafield – announced on 23 June – is opportunity enough for the area.
Peter Ellwood and Jason Spires – robinson+co’s Energy Coast experts – commented “Whilst it is disappointing news about the Enterprise Zone, we will be working with our clients to make sure that no benefit is missed from the Energy Coast project and assisting them in winning contracts for the new nuclear plant.”
However there was some good news for Cumbria yesterday as the government announced that it is subsidising the rollout of super fast broadband in the county by an amount of £17million. This acknowledges the fact that 96.2 % of Cumbrian households are eligible for subsidies.
