HMRC target Tax Credit Claimants

In light of the new spending cuts H M Revenue & Customs has now launched a campaign to tackle suspected fraudulent tax credit claims from the self employed community.

H M Revenue & Customs teams are currently examining tax credit claims from the self employed to filter out those that may not be precise or legitimate.  At this time some 12,000 letter have been sent to claimants for further investigation.

These letters request evidence to support the tax credit claim and require a prompt response. Failure to do so can result in overpayments of tax credits which will need to be repaid, as well as maybe a penalty. If, in addition, it is proven that there is deliberate fraud you could be facing criminal prosecution and imprisonment.

Although we do not believe that any of our clients are making incorrect claims, if you do receive a letter please contact Anne Frazer on 01900 603623 or via email on annefrazer@robinsonco.co.uk.
