Where do you live?
Unfortunately this is not a straightforward question when you are talking about tax, and living outside of the UK.
New legislation has been introduced to “simplify” the decision, but there are still too many traps for the unwary expatriate tax payer.
“Although the legislation does clarify some matters, in other ways it complicates matters,” says Victoria Bishop, robinson+co’s Tax Partner. “The relevant number of days in the UK is no longer the straightforward 91 days per year which many ex-patriates have in mind and I have been contacting all relevant clients to make sure that they safely fall within the new rules.”
Victoria recommends that you contact her on 01900 603623 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any queries. “It is particularly important to contact me – or your normal contact here at robinson+co – if you are considering a move overseas. The last thing you need is a nasty surprise about your UK tax position!”
